I agree just a few participants camping on the fairgrounds. I don't even remember there being booths around our area, but have to admit I have not been there the day before the Scotish Games since they tore down the smll animal building a few years back.

I don't have the answer for Dean's question. However, I wanted to make a comment about last Friday night. On the way home from work, I stopped by and drove in Gate 12. No problem. However, when I got to the area near us, it was more clear why we weren't allowed access. There was far more activity and booths than I remember seeing for the Scottish games on Friday night than I've seen before. I headed on out the front gate and there were a lot of booths on the way there. Does anyone remember the past games on Friday night? It seemed to me it was a relative handful of people setting up their tents and small booths and that was about it.

I am in search of the document that granted the land to the Fair, for Fair use. I can get it if I find out the date, the Grantee, etc. Looking at the document may give us some way to fight the fair and the "Event Center". That may not fall within the codes, covenents, etc of the granting document.
The race track was first set up in 1850. Long time ago. I ordered the book Andy mentioned.

Dean's question is a good one.
My brief search did not provide the answer.
Let's dig deeper.

In Victoria Christian's book, Alameda County Fair, she unveils the history of what began as a ranching family's Sunday pastime of horse racing. The original racetrack was built in 1850 by the Bernal family on their 52,000-acre ranch, part of the Northern California land grant Rancho Valle de San Jose.

Members,
Does anyone out there know the name(s) of the person or persons that
granted the property to the Fair. Also, do you know the date
(approximate or actual) that this transfer of land, in perpetuity to the
Alameda County Fair occured.
I would like to know any data you can provide.
Dean
