Tony,

3 or 4 railroads tried the aluminum car sides.   Athearn/Globe made kits 
with metal sides and wood frames.    I have one for each railroad that 
had a aluminum car like this.   In fact, I may have more than one of each.

Nice cars, but sort of crude by today's standards.   They can be used 
still with kadee couplers and new trucks (the old metal sprung ones 
don't run real well).

Just went and looked.
RI, 20064, 20067 (Express),  GN and C&O.  I may have a kit somewhere.
