3 or 4 railroads tried the aluminum car sides. Athearn/Globe made
kits with metal sides and wood frames. I have one for each railroad
that had a aluminum car like this. In fact, I may have more than one
of each.<br>
<br>
Nice cars, but sort of crude by today's standards. They can be used
still with kadee couplers and new trucks (the old metal sprung ones
don't run real well).<br>

Just went and looked. <br>
RI, 20064, 20067 (Express), GN and C&O. I may have a kit
somewhere.<br>

<div dir="ltr">Here's another picture of the aluminum boxcars that
Rock Island had build as an experiment. I just found this one with the
three ladies on eBay. <span style="font-size: 12pt;">I'm including
some other pictures in my collection of this car as well. </span>

<div>In terms of models, there is an O scale version of this that
was made back in the 1970's or so. It maybe be an All Nations kit
which is stamped sides, ends, roof and some wood parts to construct it.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>For HO scale, Sunshine models did a resin kit back about 2005.
I have one of these. There might have been some attempts by Globe
back in the 1960's too. Notice the number of side panels is more that
the basic AAR steel 40' boxcar.</div>

<div>I forget the number of cars that were constructed - maybe 10. </div>

<div>This would be another candidate for 3D drawing and printing
since this is not likely to coming in Athearn Genesis anytime soon.</div>
