[Accrs-ho] [accrs] Hidden yard switches

The Hidden Yard switching system has been fixed!

The manual track selector rotary switch needed a bit of cleaning and after working with it a bit the system came back online. I gave the whole system a going over. All seems good. Not bad for a system that’s well over 20 years old.

Remember that when the rotary track selector switch is set to any specific Hidden Yard track (1 – 9), the push button selector and its digit display are cut off (both at the Hidden Yard panel and the main Dispatch panel). Remember to always return the rotary track selector switch back to the * position to allow remote control of the Hidden Yard tracks. I’ll work on creating a new “Quick Reference” card for the Hidden Yard panel that includes simple instructions (for the new folks).

As far as providing “arriving and departing trains on different tracks at the same time”, that’s certainly possible with the existing system, but would require a bit of redesign. It’s not the kind of project that can be done overnight, but let me look at it and get a budget worked up.

To “allow multiple track setup for DCC consisting” would also require a bit of a modification, but also possible. The key here would be to continue to allow proper Analog operation. Remember that if all Hidden Yard tracks are energized on Analog, then all tracks are simultaneously controlled by the assigned controller (which would certainly cause problems if one train was departing while others are setting up). Note that the Passenger Yard also only allows one energized track at a time (for the same reason). A DC/DCC switchover circuit could be retrofitted in Hidden Yard to allow the different modes.

I’ll add both these project upgrades to my list, get costs for both, and we can discuss and vote.

Let me know if anyone has any questions.

-Wayne

I’m fairly familiar with this system. I rewired the switching matrix when we rebuilt the Hidden Yard a number of years ago.

I’ll try to get out there this week and take a look.

On Sunday, I was a witness to the behavior and method using the knob, which I had never knew worked.

Track selection at the central panel was not working.

Maybe this is documented in the 3 Ring Binder with the other electrical features.

Subject: Hidden yard switches

First off, thank you everyone who supported the Good-Guys show this last weekend!!

There seems to be a problem with the switch or Hidden Yard track selection system which came to light on Sunday. It was working at the close on Saturday, but Sunday morning it was not working from either the main dispatch panel or the panel over the Hidden Yard. The red light on the Hidden panel is lit but nothing happens when the push button is pushed and the track number is not lit in either location. The black knob on the panel in Hidden will select the tracks and throw the switches. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
