<div style="color:black;font: 10pt Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Tony, this is an intriguing photo for me since I grew up about fifteen miles from this location. Your email is reminiscent of the "What's in a photograph" article that occurs in the quarterly "Classic Trains" magazine. My observations and thoughts are as follows:
<div><ul><li>The bulk handling of the grapes on the RR cars indicates the grapes are going to a winery--likely the Gallo winery in Modesto.</li><li>The prohibition era ran from 1920 through 1933. Therefore, this picture must have been taken either before or after that era.</li><li>I don't see any truck tracks in the dirt; only horse-drawn wagon tracks. Therefore this picture most assuredly was taken prior to 1920.</li><li>The construction of the steel gondola and flatcars suggests they were built not long before 1920.</li><li>The umbrella over the driver on the nearest wagon is unusual. What does that suggest about the driver?</li></ul>
