After discussions Saturday during the
workday and at the NMRA/PCR event on Sunday in Alameda,
the consensus is we should do the posters for this fair.
The one contention is on which frame to use. I am going

Subject: Proposal for California Railroad
posters on newly painted wall at Northern Entrance

Attached is a pdf with a proposal for
putting up four 36”x24” “arty” posters of the four major
California railroads. The idea is to change the look of
the North Entrance after the great paint job and make it
much cleaner and modern looking, but with art that is
evocative of the golden age of passenger travel by rail.
These will represent the four primary (Class 1)
railroads focused to California: SF/ATSF, SP, UP, and
the WP. The posters are of signature passenger trains of
each railroad, generally in the art deco to realism
period (not photos). I think there is a story to be told
using them, some thoughts in the pdf. The four posters
shown in the pdf are from eBay and are $35 each (free
shipping) in a 24”x36” poster configuration. So four
posters would be $140. If anyone has other poster
options for the railroads, please suggest (or if you
have a good one at home).

Also shown are three frame options
from Michaels. They range from $110 to $154 for the four
frames (after discounts). I personally thing the black
frame that is about 1.25 inches wide is best and those
are $127 for four, so the total for the posters and
frames is $267.

After discussing it Friday after the
business meeting, there seemed to be general agreement
this makes sense. Much of the existing artwork is either
faded or wrinkled. Putting up a bunch of misc. art or a
bunch of Orchard things is going to look cluttered. This
will be a very clean and new look and will be very
noticeable to anyone who has been coming for the last
few years (especially Jerome). I think the investment is
a good one for the new look it will give our “lobby”.

Please respond if this makes sense.
If so, I will order the posters and get some frames to
look at next Friday.
