<br>As an FYI to the membership, this was not happenstance, it was an ACCRS PR/Marketing success story. This article is actually verbatim an article that Gary, Paula and I wrote and sent to the local papers (Both the article and the original are attached). It is worth reading as it is a script for talking about our club/community service organization to emphasize our educational and community value rather than be seen as a recreational club for a few old white men (no disrespect, but that can be the external view).<br>

What this proves, as has the brilliantly executed Scavenger Hunt (Thanks again to Paula for making it work), is that we in fact can dramatically shift our relationship with the Fair and the community through a little work and organization. We will need these community/political relationships and advantages if it comes to a final effort to save the railroad if the fair is able to move forward with their corporate event transformation strategy.<br>

We have to get active and involved to save our hobby in the tri-city area. We need to define strategies to increase our community visibility/involvement and build political links. After the fair we need to define a set of actions to increase our community involvement and follow through on building our new position and visibility. These need to be managed for follow-through and completion, just like Paula did in driving the Scavenger Hunt.<br>

To my mind, this activity is as important as track or scenery or trains to all of us. Not being a recognized asset/cultural icon to the Alameda County community at large enables the Fair to ignore us and then destroy the railroad without outcries or consequences. If we can build a community/political base and they will have to work with us.<br>
<br>
BTW, everyone I talk to at the fair about the potential of closing the railroad I suggest an email/letter/phone call to their County supervisor. If we can get enough messages from constituents the politicos will take notice. If you run into anyone with Alameda county political contacts, get a name and give it to Gary. We need all of the "Friends of the Railroad" that we can get.<br>
