Just a note that the NMRA PCR Coast Division is having a meet on Sunday, March 3 starting at 9 AM at the Elks Lodge in Alameda. This is the day after our next work day on March 2.
I had never joined the NMRA until last year, but it is worthwhile to support the hobby and to participate in events. Locally there are quarterly events such as the one on the 2nd. Also, there are focused events through the year. Jere and I went to the Layout/Operating SIG meeting a couple of weeks ago in Santa Rosa. The presentations were really interesting/helpful (some really good concepts in layout design and operations) and we got to see 4 layouts that evening, one of which was built so the "under layout" was all 6 foot tall. On Sunday I went to a layout in Mountain view that is a Pennsylvania coal railroad and operated a way freight delivering cars from the main yard to a local town. There is also a PCR convention in Sacramento May 2-5, http://pcrnmra.org/conv2019/
The event coming up on the 3rd has a clinic by Jack Burgess on "Visiting the YV" and another on Modelling fences. There are model contests and an auction. At the last event, the items auctioned were in the hundreds (the auction took a couple of hours). There were probably 30-50 lots of HO engines and there were at least 2,000 cars in lots for sale (almost all HO). Lots of kits and misc. I bought 30 slow speed motors for a dollar and the two Sunset O scale EMD BL2 locos for $125 for the club. There were some really good deals.
If you have not seen it, here is a link to the quarterly NMRA PCR Bulletin for Jan-Mar http://www.pcrnmra.org/pcr/branch/BL119web.pdf
