My son worked there until earlier this year. He was in the HQ down in SJ and was the finance for Marketing and Sales.  He left because they had cut the HQ staff by about 50%, the workload had become insane and he could see the outlook was not improving.

His analysis is that Orchard tried to address a market that does not exist, the high end DIY homeowner who is interested in a service based shopping experience. The point is that high end customers, in general, hire contractors who buy at Home Depot r buy on price.

Unfortunate, for 40 years, OSH was the go to place to get that hard to find circuit breaker or part. Then they decided to go upscale instead of utilitarian. I think if they had stayed focused there they would have continued.  Hard to sell Weber BBQs at full price when they can be bought for a discount down the street or on Amazon.  The stores got larger and fancier, while the core was ignored.

It will be missed.....just like Mervyns.....
