Here’s a great view of RI 630 E6A decorated to celebrate EMD’s 50th Anniversary.  At the time this photo was take in 1972,  it was the oldest E Unit still in operation.  RI had a lot of 1st generation EMD still running.

Today 630 is owned by Dan Sabin of the Iowa Northern Railway and was recently restored into an early 1960 era paint scheme.  It will be restored back to operation again.

In the late 1970’s people were stealing the RI emblems off the front of locomotives – these emblems were custom made in RI Shop after locomotive delivery.  So if you ever see a builders photo,  it will be missing this emblem.
