I lot of the new DCC models with factory sound are being shipped with the 21pin connector. (it’s actually a 2x11 connector, but only 21 pins are used)
Understanding that there are no single standard and there is competing vision between the European and American modelers/manufacturers there is cases where “compatibility” may not exist.
It is also important to know that when you purchase a 21Pin decoder you are likely getting the “Daughter Board” that plugs into the “Motherboard” Below is an example of a Soundtraxx 21Pin.

When you purchase on of these products, now you need to know what standard does it support – NEM or NMRA. Your motherboard should match whatever standard the decoder is.
