Sounds like you and HP are way ahead of the rest of us....but considering the way tech moves your ideas may only be few years (months, weeks) away.

This past Tuesday I attended at meeting at HP's 3D Printer Labs in Palo Alto to listen to their vision and journey for 3D printing. HP is now shipping 2 printer models. One of the customers is BWM in Germany that is using it for production auto parts. I have two requests for HP - one is to print a LED and the other is to be able to print model railroad products.

The ability to print an LED would be revolutionary. Instead if creating a feature and lighting it with an LED, why not just print the feature and LED together? HP is already thinking about being able to print in multiple materials and include electrical conductor circuits during the print process, along with different colors, material states. Since HP is working at the molecular level for it's print head, once the material sciences provide the available material types then I think it would be possible to 3D print a model locomotive shell with integrated circuit for lighting (head light, number boards, class lights, step lights, etc...)

Unfortunately, today the surface quality doesn't meet the quality of injection plastic. But it could be used for parts like frame, chassis components that are not fully visible.
Large the scale or more acceptable things become. I'm optimistic that someone will find a way to achieve this in the future.

Check out a couple of these videos and you'll get the idea.
