SACRAMENTO, Calif. — An original Southern Pacific 1920s-era rotary snowplow is the newest exhibit at the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento. The “Clearing the Way” exhibit features SP MW205 — originally numbered SP 715.

The snowplow was built in the 1920s before being converted to electric in 1958. It was retired by Union Pacific in 2004, which donated it to the museum in 2008.

Museum officials repainted the snowplow and created a small exhibit to give visitors a better understanding of the ways railroads used to fight snow through time.

The new exhibit is located inside the museum’s roundhouse and will be on display beginning Jan. 30 through March. Museum admission is $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 6-17 and free for children five and younger.
