No big deal. Just needed some cleaning out.
Inside it's fairly simple. There's no motor, it's powered by two huge
electromagnets on each side. There's a springloaded metal rod in the
center, and once the wig wag gets to one side the rod makes contact with an
electrical wiper which powers the other magnet and it goes back the other
way. Looks like lubricant mixes with dirt and builds up on the rod and
wipers, breaking electrical contact. Also enough dirt had piled around the
rod it was slowing down the swing.
Mechanisms can be accessed from sides of the top. Theres a lever on each
side which pops off the side panel. Probably want it turned off when you
clean it or you'll get zapped by 120 volt.
I imagine it's probably fine now for another 5 years.
