Years ago I took my Cub pack to the annual open house/show of the East Bay Club (then in Emeryville, now at Pt. Richmond). This was the club's big fund raiser and a chance to cultivate interest in model railroading.
But Nooooo, said John Belushi. Our Cubs and all other visitors were rudely and completely ignored by self-absorbed Club members running their trains and having gab-fests amongst themselves. My young visitors were keenly disappointed and we never returned.
The sole exception to the above was East Bay's traction expert, Kirby Churchill, who was as welcoming and gracious toward the young visitors as can be. Later Kirby brought his infectious spirit to ACCRS, of which he was a member for many years.
I'm in Texas this week, but otherwise would join you in giving the Cubs a real Kirby Churchill welcome.
