Members,

On Friday, November 2, we held our monthly meeting. After the meeting I
noticed that a large section of the block buttons was missing. This
was the widest panel and didn't have any block buttons installed. I
asked out loud if we were doing some work on the panel. Someone said it
was broken, not just removed for work.

I looked around for the pieces, didn't see them and proceeded to size up
the spot for a replacement piece. Last Thursday I made a special run to
club to put it in. It fit nicely but I had stained it too dark. I
came home and made another with the intention replacing the dark one
with a closer match to the others.

Unknown to me. Gary had taken the broken piece home to make a
replacement. When I showed up for my shift on Sunday, I saw he had
removed mine and put his in. Since he had the original broken one, he
could better match the color. My second one is very close in color and
we will retain it in case we have another break.

The BIG question is "How did it become broken in the first place". I
can't see a rat or squirrel jumping from the ceiling and landing on it
to break it. A member must have broken it. Did they tell anyone that
it was broken by accident?? If not WHY??

Things happen. If we break something we should let someone like a Train
Master or President of the club know. This is even more important with
the club DCC controllers etc. This is one reason the DCC locos were
locked up. Someone broke one of them and said nothing. A whole truck
needed to be replaced.

We are a club. Each of us has a responsibility to look out for the club
equipment and by doing so, it keeps our stuff in good shape. It if
doesn't work or is broken, we have the responsibility to let someone know.

Dean
