Members,

Last night I looked upstairs and found the Sierra Western GP40 #4040 in
the problem/repair box. This is one of the locos that reside in the
club DCC metal cabinet under the layout at the end of the passenger
yard. *I would like to know who put it up there and what created the
problem.*

As near as I can tell, it originally was not a DCC problem. Each truck
has a small upward facing projection that fits in the frame to keep the
truck centered in the locomotive frame. The projection on the rear
truck was broken off. It is difficult to see how that could happen as
is not something you would normally expect to occur. It tells me
someone dropped the loco (most probable) or in using the loco it fell
of the track and tumbled a long distance to the floor or something like
that. Mishandlng while trying to put the truck on the track could have
also caused the breakage.

There was no note on the loco detailing the problem. Of course, when
the truck no longer can center on the frame, the drive shaft pushes out
of the fly wheel and the motor just spins.

When you damage a loco, you are supposed to report it and make a note of
the problem and what happened. Not just quietly stick it in the repair
box. In most cases the damage most likely is accidental, but it still
needs to be reported.
