Wayne,
The type coupler used depends on the car and such things as the height of the coupler box and how close you want the cars to each other. Try the #5's and see if they work. Kadee now has a series of couplers with "whisker" springs integral with the coupler which eliminates the folded bronze spring in the box. The #58 is the equivalent of the #5 but has the whisker springs. Check the Kadee or Walthers web sites for the myriad of options. They also have "scale head" couplers which have a smaller head but will still couple with the standard head.

Hey there,

What type of Kadee couplers are we recommending for passenger cars these days? I used to get #5 couplers for rolling stock, but I seem to recall that passenger cars need a different model.

I just got a bunch of Walthers Proto and Broadway Limited passenger cars, and want to be sure they are properly outfitted for our layout.

Thanks folks.
