I guess I’ll weigh in with my two cents worth. Our HO scale membership is made up with a wide range of analog/DCC capabilities—a few with only analog rolling stock to some that have only DCC equipment with a diverse ratio in between. There are both active and seldom seen members at both ends of that spectrum. As a separate issue, but related to the point I am about to make, it is rare that there are more members than needed signed up for staffing an open house event. My point therefore, if we start having only DCC operations for open house events, we exclude some of our active members from participating. I don’t believe our club is strong enough for that yet.
Before we start scheduling DCC-only open house events we should engage in a thorough evaluation of the consequences of that action. Although I don’t recall there being a vote on the subject for the upcoming Good Guys show, I don’t believe a simple majority vote is appropriate here. Such a vote simply means that the majority wins and the minority looses. Although that may seem to be the logical result of any vote, the Analog/DCC issue has more profound consequences. Going to DCC-only is tantamount to amending the ACCRS bylaws to say that only DCC members will be welcome. Are we ready for that? I don’t believe we are.
By this argument, I am not proposing that we must forever split operations 50/50 analog/DCC for each weekend event. However, if there is a DCC only event, there should be an olive branch offered to the analog members for an analog day somewhere in the future. Even Friday nights might migrate to something other than a 50/50 allocation of time. Whatever the future of this issue, let’s make sure all voices are heard, even the ones that remain silent in a charged environment.
Let’s not let this issue be a divisive one.
John Kolberg

Hello Members
I have been monitoring the emails over who is upset to have DC
I argue to have operations with DC during events WE as a club are obligated to be OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
Our club is one of the last bay area clubs to operate a Duel Mode
Members like myself and Lee and Andy H are owners of models MEANT to operate on DC Voltage
DCC operators of our club as well as DC operators of our club MUST respect eachother and give COMPROMISE to operate both modes
This is on my mind
Thank You Gary B

I agree with Lee. I would like to convert my Analog units to DCC. Unfortunately, I have several
brass units that aren't the easiest to convert over. Yes, DCC is a smoother operation to run trains.
I will still go along with what the club majority wants to run.

This is Lee, and I too have some DCC locomotives to run on the layout, and will in the future be having some of my analog locomotives converted to DCC, and in fact that is in the works now. Some of them, hopefully will be ready for the fair, which I presume will be all DCC this year. There are also DCC locomotives that are coming out that I have my eye on, but being a retiree, will have to budget accordingly.
What I object to is that I was shouted down by that certain member, and wasn't allowed to say my piece. The club is for all of us. I pay my dues, the same as other members, and have participated in most all the past shows. The back of my vests say ACCRS, not the name of that certain member. I asked to have DC on Sunday, not the Saturday that certain member will be there, and I didn't get the chance, as I said to state my piece.

None of those DCC locos were purchased by the club. I donated them.

I recall the vote being taken. Whether or not all DCC is fair, or not, is clear to me, it's not. Never mind I voted yes. We should probably, at least, consider a few more DCC engines and perhaps trains. I'm thinking passenger trains, right now I believe the only really functional passenger train is the Amtrak. Also a few more DCC freight engines. While I understand what drove the "locking up" of the current DCC engines (are we still doing that?) it seems counter productive (let's by stuff which we feel is too valuable to run??)
Just a thought or two on the subject.

Group,
I cut out early on the February meeting and didn't get in on the discussion. I have been in the hobby for a long time and also gathered a sizable stable of analog locomotives. Some I have put in lots of hours on them running on the layout and others that are just collecting dust as they have never been run.
I feel that the future will be with DCC (I voted against it way back when) and have been actively converting those locos, that I feel I am most apt to want to run, to DCC. I have some in my locker that are still analog for use when DCC is not the choice for the day I am running on the layout.
Other than the expense of the decoder (which can be a problem to those with limited funds) the installation isn't too difficult. Some are just direct "plug and play". Others are not much more complicated than putting together one of the more modern kits. Why don't we do a clinic on installing decoders. Also, maybe if we got together, as a club, we might be able to purchase a bunch at a discount.
Operation is certainly easier and better with DCC and I know that some that like to run analog have difficulties with the switches and buttons on the control panel and depend on those that know how to run it. With DCC, most of these problems disappear.

I actually raised the question at the Feb meeting about whether or not to run all DCC. There was a little bit of discussion and we did make the decision to run both days as DCC. I also have a lot of analog, but also agree that the shows tend to run smoother with more trains on DCC. I believe we could loan some of the club DCC engines to people who only have analog for the shows.
Ed, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hello Members,
I join Lee with his argument over how operations are being decided
Our club has vast numbers of members who still op to run trains on Analog and I am one of them
I choose to participate in these matters to voice my position just as Lee and Andy
This is on my mind to get my interest in with our club
Thank You
Gary B

Not all of us decided to do DCC for the good guys show, and I don't remember any vote taken on it.
I know I got shouted down by a certain member, when I asked to do DC on Sunday.
Hence, I won't be participating in the Good Guys show, or any other shows, with the exception of the Fair, and the Train Show, if there is one on site.

All,
At last month’s meeting we decided to do DCC for both days. If anyone has any questions about that and/or is willing or prefers to do DC for one of the days, please let me know. The schedule will be posted at the club and on the web.
Thank you
