Hello fellow officers,
Ed and I were down at the club today and noticed the unfortunate smell in
the upstairs room still remains.
I decided to clean the upstairs room while attempting to locate the source.
I cleared away a large volume of junk, vacuumed, organized some things, and
mounted all picture frames that were piled up by the computer station up
onto the walls. I consolidated all the videos (including some I found in
the locker-room) to one of the white cabinets (in case you're looking for
them). All the coffee materials are now in one box which is so labeled, and
I think should be kept off the floor so the rats don't get in there (I
threw out stuff that had droppings in it).
I pulled the air conditioning unit completely out of the wall, thoroughly
inspected it, and cleaned it up.
I did not find any dead animals or rotting food inside or underneath any of
the mentioned places. However, I did find a former rat nest in the SE
corner of the room behind the file cabinet. I would describe the smell as
similar to wet dog, which people on the internet say is what rat frequented
areas usually smell like. The smell is strongest on the carpet in the
corner and along the base of the back wall, which is where I found the
most droppings and the nest. It is also possible a rat may have died inside
the wall, but I'm told that the smell would be horrific if that were the
case.
Ed suggested it may be time to shampoo the carpet, which may not be a bad
idea. We don't have much carpet but perhaps someone else wants to use the
rest of the rental for their home.
I also found a product online here that has high reviews:

Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks,
-Joel
